Making a Cultural Music Difference with Natalia Toache

There’s nothing new about the incredible talent and creativity of Latin music artists who cross over into the consciousness of the American music industry. Even so, every generation requires those who contribute and pick up the mantle to ensure a continuing awareness of this. From Bad Bunny to Celia Cruz, Ricky Martin to Gloria Estefan, Carlos Santana to Jennifer Lopez, there’s a clearly defined favorable state for this intersect in the US music scene. Natalia Toache is the latest in the lineage of those pursuing this. Born in Mexico City, Ms. Toache was inspired by the artists in many of the countries around her homeland, including those who captured the attention and hearts of America. Natalia is about to release her first Spanish language recording but her vision extends much further than this. She is also undertaking a project that will illuminate Mexican music artists who have not yet burst onto the scene via a major platform. Personifying the adage, “Be the change you want to see” Natalia Toache plans to benefit her homeland as well as music fans all across the planet with a wave of Mexican music that just might usher in a new golden era.

With a foot firmly planted in English language music, Natalia is preparing her first full Spanish language offering with the release of several singles later this year to be followed by a full release in early 2025. She describes the music as created to reflect various aspects of her personal journey, heritage, and the emotions which have shaped her. The traditional sounds of her youth, like Mariachi, Bolero, and Ranchera, will incorporate elements of folk, pop, rock, and even subtle electronic touches to establish a fresh and contemporary vibe. Electric guitars will be as present as the bright, celebratory sounds of trumpets which are staples of Mariachi music. The intimacy of songs like “Sin palabras” (without words) stands alongside songs which meld pop and the Mariachi sound. Appealing to both native Spanish speaking countries and the ever-increasing native Spanish speaking American public, Natalia’s music appeals to a sizeable and eager audience. The lineup on these recordings features such prestigious collaborators as producer Pedro Kayat, known for his work with Latin Grammy Award–Winner Camila Cabello.

Cementing the notion that music is about community as much as it is about one’s own career, Natalia’s other current project is one which will bring emerging Mexican artists into the spotlight through a unique interview-like platform. Focusing on newer artists, the project is aimed at reaching the Mexican public while aspiring to increase the international visibility of these artists. Natalia remarks, “We want more people around the world to get to know the Mexican music scene and hopefully understand that the future is bright for us. This project aims to provide these artists with a meaningful stage to reach new audiences and showcase their unique voices. Each segment will be crafted to highlight their individual contributions to the music scene and offer a behind-the-scenes look at their artistry. This initiative is designed to let these artists share their music and delve into their personal journeys in a way that connects deeply with audiences. While I’m keeping some details under wraps for now, I can share that we will feature a range of up-and-coming talents with different backgrounds, genres, styles and goals.”

If the purpose of art is to educate while creating emotional connection, Natalia Toache’s new music is poised to attain both of these goals in a profound manner. To understand the culture of another is to taste their food, hear their sounds, and relate to their emotions. Though Ms. Toache thinks of herself as a music artist, what she creates achieves much more than even she knows.
