Do LED Grow Lights Provide Enough Heat for Tomato Greenhouses?

LED Grow lights are widely used for growing vegetables indoors.  For commercial-scale projects, G8LED grow lights are renowned as the best lights that provide the right spectra for plants. However, when indoor growers consider using these lights, their primary concern is whether they give off enough heat. The heat output of the lights is a concern for most growers because these lights serve as a source of heat during the winter months.

What Happens in Winter Months?

Although G8LED grow lights emit less heat less compared to traditional lights like high-pressure sodium and metal halide bulbs, they generate enough heat to maintain the greenhouse temperature. Just within a short time, you will see that your plants under these lights will have robust growth. Although the tomato plants will not burn or dry out if placed very close to the grow light, they will get stunted growth.   Sometimes, the leaves may also discolor. If this happens, increase the distance between the plants.

Maintain Proper Light Distances

For the growth of plants, proper light distance plays an important role. Follow the correct distance recommended for the lights, and the plants will thrive. G8LED grow lights provide the best wavelengths that plants will need for healthy growth and maximum fruiting. The plants will stretch to the light source, just as they would under sunlight. You should always keep the light distance reasonably constant.  For shorter plants, the distance should be less.

Should the Lights Be Close to Seedlings?

When growing seeds, the lights could be closer. You should hang the lights at the lower end of the light distance available. When the seedling break ground, raise the grow light to the middle or the higher end of the range. Rest assured that LED grow lights will not burn the seedlings. If they are too close to the new growth, it may only lead to discoloration. At such times, you should raise the lights and allow the plants to adjust well to the new light distance.

What Temperature Should the Grow Room Have?

Since LEDs have a lower heat output, this makes it easier to regulate the temperatures below the light. The ambient temperature should often be 75-88 degrees Fahrenheit with the lights turned on. However, when the lights are off, the temperature will be slightly lower.

Do LED Grow Lights Work for Indoor Gardening?

For optimal yield and growth, it is vital that you use these lights properly. During the vegetative growth phase, maintain the light on for 16-18 hours per day. This helps to create a suitable environment that will mimic the photoperiod of a summer day. During this time, there will be tremendous savings on electricity.  After six to eight weeks, the plants will start flowering.  Once pre-flowers start forming, this is the first indication that the plant will move to the next growth stage.

LED grow lights are great lighting solutions for large and small-scale growing projects. Regardless of the variety of tomatoes being grown, using G8LED grow lights will be a great choice. Expect better, higher yields, and the best quality plants within a short time.
